The landlord of the property was doing a revamp and replacing the kitchen. He called me to check if the current electrical installation could work, after inspection I determined that a rewire was required. The rewire included a new ring final circuit, water and gas bonding, electric cooker supply and a consumer unit upgrade.
Here you can see the original consumer unit, in need of upgrading.
We start in the kitchen by clearing the area, marking up all positions of accessories required and double checking them against the drawing provided. We then proceed to start chasing the walls, keeping it as neat as possible of course!
Here you can see the chasing carried out. Here I've opted for round 20mm & 25mm conduit as extra protection for the cabling.
Another example of the chases, conduit and cabling. The cables have been run in safe zones in accordance with the wiring regulations.
All cabling has been installed ready for the plasterer.
Here I'm wiring a single socket for an appliance, the socket will be able to be isolated from an appliance grid switch neatly wired in a cupboard of the customers choice.
Second fixing can commence, here you can see me wiring a double socket for the breakfast bar.
Here you can see the cooker connection units for the oven and hob wired after plastering is was completed.
This is the appliance grid switch. The switches can be moved to different positions for convenience. I've laid them out in this picture to ensure I get the layout correct.
Here you can see the grid switch wired, ready to be tested and have the cover installed.
The original consumer unit was removed, the new one fixed in place. Here I'm arranging the cabling to be connected to the new consumer unit.
All of the circuits have been tested in accordance with the wiring regulations. I've neatly dressed the cables as best as I can. The lid can now go on and the circuits can be commissioned. Unfortunately there's not much I can do about the existing cabling
Lid on, circuits and consumer unit labelled. Once the trunking lids were installed and we had a final tidy up the job was complete and the customer was happy with the work!
